Microsoft is running full-page ads in a range of US newspapers including the Wall Street Journal and New York Times accusing Google of changing its privacy settings to allow it to collect more user data, and use that data to target adverts. Google has claimed the changes are a simplification of privacy settings across Google’s broad product range, to provide a better user experience. However, Microsoft offered up its own web-based services for comparison, such as Hotmail, and claimed that its users don’t have to worry about the content of their emails being used to help target ads.
