Nearly three out of 10 Kindle Fire owners plan to buy content on Amazon during the next 90 days, according to new research from ChangeWave, in what is positive news for the online retailer as it aims to significantly offset its heavily-subsidised hardware. The percentage is in comparison to just 19% of non-Kindle owners, and is significant as Amazon is targeting long-term revenue-per-user from content sales to successfully monetise its foray into the burgeoning tablet market. More than half of Kindle Fire owners claim that they are “very satisfied” with the device, behind three quarters of iPad owners. However, in what could prove worrying reading for Amazon, ChangeWave’s research indicates that interest in the device is slipping as the initial hype dies down, with just 2% of consumers surveyed describing themselves as “very likely” to purchase a device in the future, down from 4% in December.
