YouTube is considering bringing in subscriptions for its new content channels in the future, according to the video site’s CEO Salar Kamangar, as the Google-owned firm continues to assess its monetisation opportunities. Speaking at All Things Digital’s D:Dive Into Media conference in California, Kamangar says that, although YouTube has not yet planned a subscription product, some 40% of all video revenues globally come from subscriptions, on par with advertising, indicating a significant opportunity. Kamangar’s comments come as the online video space continues to evolve and mature, with a number of large players vying for user eyeballs and dollars.
