Sky cites the rise in connected devices as a key driver behind its decision to launch the service, which will roll out during the first half of this year. The move could prove a lucrative one if adoption proves strong enough, but it also illustrates the growing threat to traditional broadcasting as consumers continue to seek on-demand content online.
