Barnes & Noble to team up with Waterstones - Rumour

Mon Jan 30 2012, 09:06 AM

Barnes & Noble is partnering with UK book retailer Waterstones in a deal that will bring sales of its Nook e-reader devices to stores outside the US for the first time, according to Bloomberg sources. The deal, which would make the devices available in 300 bookshops and has been rumoured since last year, would pitch the Nook into direct competition with Amazon’s Kindle and Rakuten’s Kobo e-book readers in the region. The rumours follow comments from B&N VP for digital content Theresa Horner, who recently said the firm was bringing the Nook to the UK "in the not too distant future”. Meanwhile, a New York Times report indicates that the firm is putting the final touches on a new version of its flagship e-reader, the company’s fifth, to be released in the spring.
