Amazon's Kindle Fire has edged ahead of Samsung's Galaxy Tab in terms of app usage, suggesting that Amazon's device could be the first to really rival Apple's iPad, according to new research from Flurry. The figures show that in November, just after the Kindle Fire went on sale, the device accounted for just 3% of app usage, compared to 63% for the Galaxy Tab range. However, by the end of January Amazon's device accounted for 35.7% of app sessions, compared to Samsung's 35.6%. Flurry suggests that this growth is due to rapid adoption of the Kindle Fire over the Christmas period and a focus on content, rather than hardware, driving up app sales and tablet usage.
