Google+ opens doors to teenage users

Fri Jan 27 2012, 16:49 PM

Google+ is opening its doors to teenagers for the first time, previously requiring users to be at least 18 years old to sign up. The move comes alongside significant security enhancements, designed to protect teenagers now using the service. This includes reminders and prompts when sharing posts publicly, suspending the ‘hangout’ video chat service if a user outside of the teen’s circle joins the conversation and tight controls on who can contact a teenage user and comment on their page. Users will also have the option to set up parent controls. Up to 45% of the world’s internet users are currently under 25, according to an International Telecommunications Union study, making this a crucial demographic for Google to be targeting.
