Google streamlines auto-complete function for HTML5

Thu Jan 26 2012, 17:09 PM

Google is updating its auto-complete function for filling in online forms for HTML5. The tool currently records data such as names, addresses and phone numbers but has been criticised for being clumsy and filling the wrong fields with data. Google is now pushing an HTML5 initiative to allow sites to explicitly tell browsers which field is which, using labels such as ‘full-name’ or ‘street-address’. This functionality has already been added to Google's Chrome and Chromium operating systems but is remains in an experimental stage. Google eventually hopes it will become HTML5 standard, and hopes integration with Chrome will encourage websites and other browsers to incorporate the technology.
