Twitter boosts malware protection with Dasient purchase

Twitter is buying malware startup Dasient for an undisclosed fee to boost its malware protection ahead of the rollout of its self-serve ad platform. Dasient focuses on protection against malicious online ads, and Twitter is expected to fold the startup’s team into its ad division. The acquisition underlines Twitter’s focus on its ad service, cited by CEO Dick Costolo as the microblogging site’s main revenue stream, which he describes as “the only thing we think we need to do to be a successful business”.
