Apple hits 350,000 e-textbook downloads in three days

Apple saw 350,000 e-textbook downloads in the first three days after launching its iBooks 2 service, according to data compiled by Global Equities Research. The estimates indicate strong demand for the iPad-only books, which the firm is hoping will give it more muscle in the digital publishing space with. Apple's new iAuthor app, which allows anyone to easily publish digital texts, was downloaded 90,000 times in the period. The research house estimates that publishing iBooks costs as much as 80% less than a print version, making it an increasingly attractive option for authors and publishers alike, as the inevitable slide to digital continues.
