UK mobile operators are putting pressure on Nokia to reduce to price of its Lumia 710 in order to boost sales, after the Lumia 800 failed to crack the UK market in the run up to Christmas 2011. The new smartphone uses the Windows operating system, under Nokia’s partnership with Microsoft, which is aimed at restoring the company’s fortunes in the high-end smartphone business. However, the high-end price tag that came with the Lumia 800 alienate many of the firm’s typical consumer base, with Nokia traditionally focusing on lower-cost, reliable handsets. As such, the phone is likely to be sold on contracts of USD30 (GBP20) per month, rather than the USD38 (GBP25) recommended by Nokia.
