Zeebox and Sky aim to corner second screen ad market

Tue Jan 17 2012, 17:20 PM

Social TV app Zeebox's partnershipwith BSkyB could monetise swiftly by virtue of its early entrance to the second screen platform, says Zeebox CEO Ernesto Schmitt. Speaking to Brand Republic, he says: “The second screen is entirely free to be commercialised." The partnership will allow Sky Media to sell product ads on the Zeebox interface, an app allowing TV watchers to check in to their favourite programmes on connected devices, chat on a social network while watching, and access additional information about the episodes. Although Sky programmes will be the first to provide tailored audiences for ads, Schmitt's comments point out an absence of any legislation or copyright regulation preventing Sky Media selling Zeebox ads against their access to audiences of third-party content.
