YouTube predicts that the majority of TV channels will be created, transmitted and watched on the web, as viewers increasingly turn to internet-connected devices to watch their favourite programmes. YouTube's global partnerships chief, Robert Kyncl, outlined the site's ambitious vision at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, claiming that by 2020 the internet will account for three-quarters of all TV channels. Kyncl's comments shed light on YouTube's recent redesign, pivoting the site from an amateur video outlet to a well-categorised array of brand-oriented channels. YouTube also injected a large amount of cash into creating and hosting original content on its site, with reports pinning the figure anywhere from USD100m to USD500m.
