Kenyan business listings service Mocalityhas accused Google of knowingly engaging in fraudulent behaviour to undermine the firm and bolster its own business. The accusations came after companies on Mocality’s listings website began getting calls from Google Kenyan Businesses Online (GKBO), a service that aims to get Kenyan businesses established on the web. GKBO reportedly claimed to be partnering with Mocality to offer websites for its 170,000 listed companies, as well as telling them that Mocality would start charging for listings, something the company claims it has no intention of doing. Mocality started a sting operation against the search giant, but Google appeared to recognise this, but, instead of ceasing, outsourced its calls to India in an attempt to avoid detection, according to Mocality.
