EMI sues Grooveshark over unpaid royalties

Fri Jan 6 2012, 12:19 PM

Grooveshark, owned by Escape Media Group, is being sued by EMI, which accuses the music streaming service of paying no royalties, and disclosing no accounting statements, since entering a licensing contract with the major record company three years ago. Grooveshark allegedly owes EMI at least USD150,000, but EMI believes the actual sum “greatly exceeds” such estimates. With the filing of EMI’s new lawsuit, Grooveshark is now being sued by all four major labels – Universal, Sony and Warner Music all filed a federal copyright lawsuit late last year accusing Grooveshark of pirating thousands of songs.
