Spool wins USD1m for content curation and sharing

Wed Jan 4 2012, 16:05 PM

Spool has received USD1m from angel investors, including SV Angel and YouTube founder Steve Chen, to develop its content curation app and browser extension. Currently in public beta, Spool allows users to send any web link directly to a mobile device. All content behind the link - including text, images, PDF and video - is then cached to the device's memory so that users can access it offline, and can be pushed through to friends' devices. The new funding will help Spool manage demand by developing a self-scaling cloud server system. The app first debuted as a finalist at TechCrunch Disrupt in September, and currently stands at number 14 in the Android Market top free app chart.
