Digital album sales rose 26.6% to 26.6m last year in the UK, while CD sales fell to 86.2m, reflecting an overall decline in album sales despite growing consumer interest in legitimate digital formats. New figures from the BPI indicate that the 12.6% drop in CD sales fueled the overall fall in album sales, although the format still accounts for more than three-quarters of all album sales. Combined digital and physical album sales fell 5.6% year on year to 113.2m last year, contrasting with single sales, which broke records for the fourth year in a row across both digital and CD.  Vinyl also experienced a surprise resurgence last year, with album sales up 43.7% to 337,000.
