Wed Dec 21 2011, 12:14 PM

A San Francisco federal court has struck downUniversal Music's appeal on the dismissal of its suit against video sharing site Veoh. This case, the first copyright owner action against an online file-sharing host to reach an appeals court, is "a big victory for the digital media marketplace", according to Veoh's lawyer Michael Elkin. Judge Raymond Fisher acquits Veoh under 1998's Digital Millennium Copyright (DMC) Act, which shields internet providers unwittingly posting copyrighted material on condition that they remove the content when notified.
