Despite the growing availability of TV content online, the majority of people still watch traditional TV. Zeebox CEO Ernesto Schmitt claims TV has been "miraculously shielded" from the digital revolution of the last decade, meaning companies need to look at how to bring digital to TV viewing. Zeebox's app is trying to do just that, linking users’ smartphones and tablets with their internet-connected TV to enable them to interact with friends online and discover related content in real time. Schmitt claims that broadcaster interest in its soon-to-be-launched service is greater than expected as media companies begin to understand that they "need to do a bit more than just offer phone-ins on The X Factor”. And the firm has some bold targets, aiming to make its user data more valuable to broadcasters than official figures from UK industry tracker BARB.
