SAP Ventures invests USD10m in Indian mobile internet

US software company SAP's investment unit, SAP Ventureshas invested USD10m in Indian mobile internet company One97 Communications. One97 supplies carriers such as Airtel, Vodafone and Aircel along with mobile marketing and commerce services. The company plans to move into consumer-facing mobile commerce platforms, taking advantage of the widespread mobile connectivity in India and beyond. "One97 is right in the middle of exploding mobile usage among consumers in developing countries who are using their mobile phones to access the Internet, play games, buy content and shop online," says Jai Das, managing director at SAP Ventures. The third round proceeds will fund One97's expansion of its platform as well as its push into emerging markets in Asia and Africa. One97 Communications was founded in 2000 and is based in Delhi.
