HP president Leo Apotheker hinted at his firm's ambitious plans for the webOS operating system acquired when it bought Palm at the D9 conference in California. "WebOS will be more than just running inside or on top a particular piece of hardware that HP would make," Apotheker says. No specifics were given, but he says a number of small and enterprise companies could license webOS to run behind their corporate firewall. He also says HP would entertain the idea of a smartphone maker wanting to build a webOS phone.
