Google is set to challenge Microsoft's dominance of the PC market when the first laptops running its cloud-based operating system Chrome OS go on sale next month. The "Chromebooks" - the first of which will be made by Samsung and Acer - are designed to function almost entirely on the web in a bid to accelerate the shift in computing away from hardware and into the cloud, where Google is already ahead of its major rival.
