Google is releasing its first Chrome OS notebooks to developers and triallists, but is delaying its public launch until the first half of next year citing software bugs and compatibility issues. Unveiling a prototype Chrome notebook at a press event in San Francisco, Google also rolled out its Chrome Web Store, showcasing the first apps and extensions to tie in with the new platform. Google plans to go head-to-head with the likes of Microsoft and Apple in the PC market with its own web-dependent OS, which it claims is faster and more secure than rival products.
