Thu Nov 11 2010, 17:30 PM

Demand for tablets such as Apple's iPad won't kill off the market for netbooks, though it will slow growth of this market segment, according to IDC. The research firm claims world netbook shipments will grow 10% to hit 38m units this year then continue to grow by about 4% a year to hit shipments of 42m in 2014. That growth will be fuelled by demand in developing markets, where low prices will make netbooks more appealing to consumers than more expensive tablets. The market for netbooks in Western Europe is expected to decline by 11% between 2009 and 2014.
