Tablet growth sees netbook sales slump

The rising popularity of tablets caused netbook sales to decline 14% between Q1 and Q2, according to a report by DisplaySearch. The year-on-year decline was even more severe, with shipments of 5 to 8.5-inch netbooks dropping 89%. The iPad currently leads the tablet market but with many companies planning to release their own devices in the coming months, DisplaySearch director of notebook market research John F Jacobs describes it as “the beginning of the end of the [netbook] market”.
