French entertainment giant Vivendi recorded forecast-beating profits of EUR2.58bn (USD3.5bn) for 2009, up 5.5% driven in part by the record-breaking release of Modern Warfare 2 by Activision Blizzard, in which it owns a majority stake. Sales at the firm rose 6.6% to EUR27.1bn (USD36.7bn). Success in the firm's games division helped offset a fall in recorded music sales at Universal Music Group.
