News Corp will not make a Kindle, says Murdoch
Rupert Murdoch says it is “unlikely” that News Corp will release its own e-reader device to rival Amazon’s Kindle, pouring water on speculation that the company has already invested in e-reader technology. Murdoch delivered the remarks during an interview on his own channel, Fox Business.
Murdoch’s current remarks suggest the e-reader talks never progressed beyond the “exploratory” stage. This may be because News Corp decided it would take too long to bring an e-reader device to market. Or it may be that News Corp, a content company, decided it was too risky to cross the boundary into the hardware market.
