YouTube co-founder Steven Chen is now working on new special engineering projects for Google, having quietly stepped down as CTO at the video site towards the end of last year. He has not played an active role in YouTube's day-to-day operations for months although he is still listed as CTO on the website. YouTube may not appoint a new CTO as the video network’s operations are now largely integrated into Google’s. Chen and fellow YouTube founder Chad Hurley sold their company to Google for USD1.65bn in 2006 and Hurley is still the video network’s CEO. Google is attempting to turn a profit from YouTube with more ad-friendly premium content. YouTube is forecast to lose upwards of USD400m this year, according to Credit Suisse.
