BBC director general, Mark Thompson, is opposing plans to top-slice the licence fee, as outlined by the Digital Britain report on June 16. Thompson says such a move risks damaging the BBC’s independence, and its ability to deliver services to its customers.
“There is a suspicion that for some years now there has been a small group of people ideologically focused on getting a wedge into the licence fee,” says Mr Thompson.
