Music and video have embraced digital distribution, but the same can’t be said about games. Digitally downloaded games accounted for only 2% of video games sales in 2008, according to NPD Group. However, this may be set to change. Driven by technical innovation and the need to experiment with new business models, the games industry is increasingly venturing into digital distribution – a move that may spell the end for physical games sales.
