Microsoft says it is about to buy Danger, the California-based company which developed the software for T-Mobile's Sidekick, for an undisclosed sum. This is the fourth acquisition announced by Microsoft since the beginning of the year, not including its current USD44.6bn bid for Yahoo!, which signals the firm's intention to extend outside its traditional desktop activities. Since Jan, Microsoft has announced plans to acquire CDN firm Limelight Networks, 3D software developer Caligari and enterprise search firm Fast Search & Transfer. In Nov and Dec, it bought web 2.0 firms Multimap, Musiwave and WebFives. It is also rumoured to be in talks to buy UStream.tv for USD50m.
