Facebook opens site to companies in bid to remain independent

Facebook will announce on Thursday that it will allow companies to offer services on special pages of the social networking site as part of an effort to remain independent, reports the Wall Street Journal. Details of the strategy are unknown, but Facebook will apparently not hand over any money in any potential tie-up. The draw for participating companies will be that they will have access and exposure to Facebook users. The WSJ cites a media company allowing a group of users to share a news article on a separate webpage as an example of a possible service that a company might offer on the popular website.
